Re: Le Golem (1936) Public Domain?
Its copyright was automatically restored under the Uruguay Round Agreements Act
on January 1st, 1996. It won't be public domain in the US until at least the end of its current 95-year US copyright term in 2032.
None of the URAA restoration exemptions apply:
(1)at least one of the authors
(director Julien Duvivier) was a citizen from an eligible country (France)
(2)the film was still under copyright in France on January 1st 1996 (French copyright
terms last until 70 years after the death of the last surviving author, so this exemption can't apply to any French film made in or after 1926)
(3)the film hadn't been registered with the copyright office
and was in the public domain until 1996 only due to lack of compliance with formalities imposed by US law
(4)the film was first published in an eligible country (France) and was not subsequently published in the US within 30 days (US publication actually occurred more than one year after French publication according to IMDB
